At the Urology Clinic, we qualify for surgical procedures performed as part of our Urology Department.

The testicular hydrocele is formed by the accumulation of clear fluid between the visceral and parietal membranes of the testicle. The formation of a testicular hydrocele may result from trauma as well as from acute, chronic and nonspecific testicular or epididymitis. It also occurs during the development of testicular cancer. The reason for the accumulation of fluid in the testicle is an imbalance between the secretion and absorption of fluid by the vaginal lining.

Operation using Bergmann’s method – a method of surgical treatment of testicular hydrocele consisting in removing excess testicular casings and applying a hemostatic suture to their edges. The procedure is performed lying down. After the surgical field is placed, the urologist cuts the skin of the scrotum and prepares the hydrocele casings, which are removed outside the scrotum. The next step is to evacuate the fluid from the testicular hydrocele. Most often, the fluid in the testicular hydrocele is straw-colored. Occasionally, the hydrocele’s fluid may be cloudy or stained with blood after an injury. After removing the sheaths, the urologist places an appropriate hemostatic suture on their edges. A drain is inserted into the scrotum and usually removed the next day.

Operation using the Winkelmann method – an operation of the hydrocele of the testicle consisting in the dissection of the hydrocele, evacuation of the fluid from the hydrocele and the appropriate evacuation of its casings. The course of the operation is the same as in the case of the Bergmann method.

The procedure to remove the testicular hydrocele is always preceded by a urological consultation along with an ultrasound examination. After qualifying for the procedure, the patient must perform the necessary tests and consult an anesthesiologist.

For several weeks after the operation, it is recommended to conserve lifestyle and limit physical activity. It is recommended to wear tight underwear, which speeds up the absorption of scrotal edema. You should have a postoperative visit with an ultrasound after about 2 weeks.

There is a risk of certain sequelae and complications associated with the hydrocele removal procedure. Belong to them:

  • Infection
  • Testicular damage
  • Scrotal hematoma
  • Pain or discomfort in the operated area

Any complaints after the procedure should be consulted with the attending physician.
